Summary
November 2011
Lisburn’s annual Accommodation Forum was recently held at Coca Cola Visitor Experience, Knockmore. The annual Forum provides and opportunity for the local industry to get together and receive a range of industry related presentations from a number of guest speakers within the tourism industry. This year over 30 proprietors attended the Forum with guest speakers from Northern Ireland Tourist Board, Belfast Visitor & Convention Bureau, Lisburn City Council and Lagan Rural Partnership.
Alderman Jim Dillon, Chairman of the Council’s Economic Development Committee, speaking at the Forum, said: “Our accommodation providers are an important part of the Tourism product within the City of Lisburn, providing a friendly welcome and somewhere comfortable to stay for our visitors. Tourism continues to bring substantial economic benefits to the local area including tourism revenue to local businesses.”
This year’s Accommodation Forum ended with a tour of one of Lisburn’s recently opened attractions – the Coca Cola Visitor Experience. This new Visitor Experience at Coca Cola, Knockmore bottling plant is open by appointment only.
Lisburn City Council has over 700 bed spaces available on any given night ranging from Hotel, Guest Houses, Bed & Breakfast and Self Catering. Further to this, research indicates that some 2/3 of overnight visitors to the City of Lisburn are visiting friends and relatives (VFR market). The accommodation sector continues to grow with accommodation stock in Lisburn doubling over the last 5 years.
