Event information
A Selection of Prints
‘The backbone of my artistic life is drawing. I draw every day of my life – things I see in life, in the news, in daydreams. Through drawing I come to know my images, understand them fully, give them life of their own.’
James Millar, an artist for over forty years, is well known for his dramatic, often large-scale, black and white prints – usually linocuts, copper plate etchings and aquatints.
Over the years, James’ many influences have resulted in collections of prints and drawings - some of his themes, often recurring; have included ‘Eve’, ‘Circus’, ‘The Minotaur’ and ‘Don Quixote’. Many other factors have come to influence his work including the theories of Jung, Freud and the art of Picasso and Matisse.
James’ work is regularly exhibited in both solo and group shows, often as a member of Belfast Print Workshop, and is represented in many public and private collections. In 2007 a retrospective of his prints, drawings and paintings (1967 – 2007) was shown at the Engine Room Gallery, Belfast.
